Organisation Flashcards
Proteins
Long chains of chemicals called amino acids
What happens when amino acids are absorbed by the body cells?
They’re joined together in a different order to make human proteins
What does starch consist of?
A chain of glucose molecules
What happens when carbohydrates are digested ?
Simple sugars are produced
Where is amylase found?
In the saliva and pancreatic fluid
Where is lipase found?
In the pancreatic fluid ( also in small intestine )
What does bile speed up the digestion of?
Lipids - bile isn’t an enzyme
What does it mean when bile emulsifies the lipid?
It converts large lipid droplets into smaller droplets
When bile emulsifies the lipid , what does this increase?
Massively increases surface area of the lipid droplets
