The digestive system is an example of an organ system where different organs work together to digest and absorb food
Digestion
Digestion is where large insoluble molecules are broken down into smaller soluble ones that can be absolved into the bloodstream. Digestion occurs in the gut which is a tube from the mouth to the anus and it relies on enzymes or biological catalysts.
Amylase
Released in the salivary glands and pancreas. Breaks down carbohydrates into simple sugars for example glucose.
Protease
Released in the stomach and the pancreas. Breaks down proteins into amino acids.
Lipase
Released in the pancreas.
Breaks down fats oil or lipids into fatty acids and glycerol
