The Addition Rule

A

When an unsymmetrical molecule containing hydrogen is added to an unsymmetrical, unsaturated compound the H atom attaches to the C of the double bond that has the greatest amount of H atoms attached. To it the remaining part of the added molecule is added to the C of the double bond having the most carbons attached to it

The Eliminations Rule

A

When a molecule containing hydrogen is removed from a saturated compound the hydrogen is removed from the carbon with the least amount of hydrogen atoms attached to it. The double bond forms between the carbon atom and the carbon atom to which the other part of the remove molecule was attached
