Organic Chemistry Flashcards
What is organic chemistry?
organic chemistry is the study of Carbon and its compounds. Carbon has the ability to bond to itself so there are many organic compounds.
What is a homologus series?
A group of organic chemicals which have certain similarities:
- same functional group
- this means they react in a similar way
- they have the same general molecular formula
What are Alkanes?
Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons. Saturated means they only contain single covalent bonds. A hydrocarbon is a chemical that only contains carbon and hydrogen.
