Organic Chemical Basics Flashcards
What form are most pure substances and elements other than novel gases found in?
Ions
What are ions
Atoms that have a valence not holding the number of electronegative that it could/should have.
What is the octet rule
The exception of hydrogen and helium as the valence electrons can hold a maximum of 8 electrons.
What does not having a full valence create?
The atom is less stable and more reactive
How to atoms try to fill their valence and what is the result
Ions combine to share electrons in bonds. The result is stable molecules with lower energy.
What does r mean to be unsaturated
Not holding the maximum amount of hydrogens. Ex double bond (mono) or triple bond (poly)
List the name with number of carbons from 1 to ten

What has single bonds
Ane
What has at least one double bond
Ene
What has at least one triple bond
