Organelles In Eukaryote Flashcards
Ribosomes (free or bound)
Use the DNA to make proteins (necessary)
Cytoskeleton
Network of protein fibers extending throughout cytoplasm, physical shape and support, generates movement, controls intracellular flow
Flagella and cilia
Short projections used for movement. Sperm have flagella, cilia are in respiratory tract
Mitochondria
“Powerhouse of the cell”. All purpose energy converter. Present in almost all cells. Converts chemical bonds in food into energy. Maternally inherited.
Lysosomes
“Garbage disposals”
Site of intracellular digestion, membranous sacs of digestive enzymes. Acidic. Digest food, break down damages organelles.
Endomembrane
Build proteins and lipids, send out of cell to body (UPS). Rough ER, smooth ER, and
Nucleus
Genetic control center containing most of the genes. 2 layered membrane with pores.
