Organelles and functions Flashcards
What does Prokaryotic cells consist of?
Cell membranes, cytoplasm,ribosomes.
What does a Eukaryotic cell consist of?
Membrane, Cytoplasm, ribosomes, and a distinct nucleus.
Describe the differences between a plant and an animal cell.
Animal cells each have a centrosome and lysosomes, whereas plant cells do not. Plant cells have a cell wall, chloroplasts, and a large central vacuole, whereas animal cells do not.
Describe similarities between animal and plant cells.
Both have mitochondria, Golgi Body, Rough and smooth ER, nucleus, cytoplasm, and ribosomes.
Describe ribosomes function
Animal or plant cell?
Ribosomes Perform protein synthesis. Exist in both Animal and Plant cells.
Describe Mitochondria’s function
Animal or plant cell.
participates in** cellular respiration
exists in animal and plant cells.**
Vesicles and Vacuole
Plant or Animal cell?
Are storage and transport compartments. vesicles Exist in animal and plant cells. Vacuoles exist in both animal and plant cells.
Describe Lysosomes function
Animal or plant cell?
Breaks down old waste and exists in animal cells.
Describe Smooth and Rough ER’s function.
Animal or plant cells?
The smooth ER makes lipids, and the rough ER makes secretory and membrane proteins. In plant and animal cells.
Describe the Golgi Body’s function
Plant or animal cell?
Transports, modifies, and packages proteins. In plant and animal cells.
Describe function of cytoskeleton
plant or animal cells?
Provides mechanical support for division and movement. In animal and plant cells.
Describe the function of cilia and flagella
Plant or animal cells?
is used to **move cells toward food and away from danger.Exist in animal cells only **
cell membrane
Surrounds the cell in animal and plant cell.
Describe the function of the cell wall.
Animal or plant cell?
Supports outside of plant cell.
In plant cell.
