Organelles Flashcards
1
Q
What is cytoplasm?
A
- includes cytosol ( fluid ) and organelles
- all inner cellular material excluding the nucleus
- jelly - like substance that supports and protects the organelles
2
Q
What is mitochondrion?
A
- the powerhouse of the cell : transforms sugar into energy
3
Q
What is chloroplast?
A
- trap the sun’s energy to makes food for the plants ( photosynthesis )
- contains chlorophyll ( green pigment )
4
Q
What is vacuole?
A
- fluid-filled storage space that store food, water and waste
5
Q
What is ribosomes?
A
- produces protein
- small but numerous
- attached to ER
- floating in cytosol
6
Q
What is ER stand for?
A
- Endoplasmic Reticulum
7
Q
What is Endoplasmic Reticulum?
A
- a membranous network which isolates and transports chemical
8
Q
How many type of ER are there?
A
2 types:
- Rough ER : with ribosomes
- Smooth ER: without ribosomes
9
Q
What is nucleus?
A
- the control centre of the cell that hold DNA
10
Q
What is cell wall?
A
- an extra outer layer that provide shape, strength, supports and protects the cell
- only in plants cell
11
Q
What is cell membrane?
A
- a thin lining around a cell
- controls what enters and leaves the cell
12
Q
What is golgi apparatus?
A
- packages and transport protein
13
Q
What organelles can only be found in plant cell?
A
- chloroplast
- cell wall
- vacuole
14
Q
What organelles can only be found in animal cell?
A
- lysosome
- centrioles
15
Q
What is organelle?
A
- the smallest functional units within a cell
16
Q
What is cell?
A
- the basic structural and functional unit of life
17
Q
What is tissue?
A
- a group of similar cells working together to perform a specific function
18
Q
What is an organ?
A
- a group of tissues working together to perform a specific function
19
Q
What is organ system?
A
- a group of organs that work together to perform a broad function
