Organelle Flashcards
What does Chloroplast do?
Photosynthesis occurs here
What do ribosomes do?
Create protein
What does mitochondria do?
Turns glucose into energy
Respiration occurs here
What does the cell membrane do?
- Regulates what comes in and out of the cell
- Protects cell
- Keeps organelle inside cell
What is the function of the Nucleus?
Contains genetic information
What does cytoplasm do?
Regulates all chemical reactions within a cell
What is the function of the sap vacuole?
- Maintains water regulation
- Helps cell remain firm
What does the cell wall do?
- Strengthens cell
- Helps cell keep its shape
- Contains cellulose
Is chloroplast found in animal cells, plant cells or both?
Plant cells only
Is the mitochondria found in plant cells, animal cells or both?
Both
What organelle does sperm have lots of and why?
Mitochondria, so that the sperm can gather enough energy to swim.
What two organelle do plants have but animals not?
Sap Vacuole and Chloroplast
What is the function of a root hair cell?
Hair like structure creates more surface area to absorb nutrients from the soil.
What do palisade cells do?
Tall shape and large sap vacuole create more surface area to absorb sunlight and create photosynthesis.
Found on top layer of leaves.
What do xylem vessel cells do?
Create pipes all around the plant to transport water and minerals from roots.
