Deceased donation

A

An organ can be given at the time of the donor’s death. Only possible when the person is in the hospital on on a ventilator when they are pronounced brain dead/ Only possible after all attempts to save the patents life have been tried and brain death has been declared

Paired transplants

A

two separate but willing donors are each unable to donate their intended recipient due to blood group incompatibility.

Domino transplants

A

Occurs when a non-directed donor starts a chain of transplants, thus helping several patients in the process. Often this donor will donate to a recipient (1), while that who do not will donate to recipient 2, while their donor will donate to 3 and so forth.
