organ systems and hormones Flashcards
what are the three systems that help metabolism?
mechanical system, factor exchange system, and circulatory system
what is the mechanical system?
this system encloses and supports the human body and provides structures and framework for the body
what are the two systems with in the mechanical system?
skeletal system (support the body, movement, and protection) and the integumentary system (forms the physical barrier between external and internal env.)
what is the factor exchange system?
this system moves chemicals in and out of the body (connective tissue)
what’re the systems within the factor exchange system?
respiratory system, digestive syst., and the urinary system
what is the circulatory system? do verts have open or closed systems , how many?
link cells to the factor exchange system. verts have two closed systems
what is the “liquid tissue” moved through vessels?
blood
what’re the smallest vessels?
capillaries
what’re capillaries ?
they are the gateway in and out of the circulatory system
what’re the two systems within the circulatory system?
cardiovascular systm and the lymphatic system
what is the primary system?
cardiovascular system
what muscle is apart of the cardiovasc. system and what does it promote?
the heart and it promotes blood pressure
what does BP do?
BP moves factors and forces fluids (like water) out of the system to bathe cells
what is the name of the fluid that baths the cells?
interstitial fluid
what’re components of the lymphatic system?
lymphatic vessels, lymphatic nodules, and lymphatic organs
what’re the two functions of the lymphatic vessels?
pick up excess interstitial fluid and return it back to the cardiovasc. system as lymph. And collect lipids from the intestines and back to the cardiovasc. system
what is the clear watery fluid that circulates the lymphatic system?
lymph
what’re clusters of white blood cells?
lymphatic noduoles
where are the lymphatic nodules abundant at?
mucosa lamina propria and in the lymphatic organs
what are lymphatic organs and what is their function?
tonsils, protect the pharynx, lymph-nodes, protect the lymph, and the spleen this protects the blood supply (recycles red blood cells)
what’re the two systems that govern metabolism?
the nervous system and the endocrine system
what’re functions of the nervous system?
controls most body functions
how does the nervous system control body functions?
by releasing neurotransmitters on target cells in synapses
what allows cell to cell contact?
synapses
