Basic understanding of what belongs in each organ system.
Integumentary System
The primary function is to protect underlying tissues from injury. Consists of your skin, hair, and nails.
Skeletal System
The primary function of the skeletal system is to provide a framework to which your muscles attach. It consists of your skeleton and is composed of all the bones, cartilage, and ligaments in your body.
Muscular System
The primary function is to move your skeleton, pump blood through your heart, and squeeze hollow organs to move a substance through. Consists of all the muscles in your body.
Nervous System
The primary function is to communicate information throughout the body by sending signals between the brain and the rest of the body, including internal organs. Consists of Your brain, spinal cord, and nerves.
Endocrine System
The primary function is to release hormones into the blood while continuously monitoring the levels. It consists of a disperse group of glands that secrete molecules called hormones.
Cardiovascular System
The primary function of the blood system is to circulate blood throughout the body, delivering oxygen and nutrients to cells and removing waste. It consists of the heart, blood, and blood vessels.
Lymphatic System
The primary function is to transport lymph, a fluid containing white blood cells that fight infection, throughout the body. Consists of lymph nodes, the spleen, and the bone marrow.
Respiratory System
The primary function is to lead from your nose to your lungs, directing oxygen and carbon dioxide out. Consists of the Lungs, trachea, larynx, and diaphragm.
Digestive System
The primary function is to break down the food we eat so we can absorb the nutrients and eliminate waste. Consists of the stomach, liver, pancreas, and gallbladder.
Urinary System
The primary function of the urinary system is to filter and eliminate waste molecules from our blood. Consists of The kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, and urethra.
Reproductive System
The primary function is To produce egg and sperm cells, transport and sustain these cells, and nurture the developing offspring.
The reproductive system is divided into male and female reproductive systems. The male reproductive system consists of the testes, penis, prostate gland, etc. The female reproductive system consists of the ovaries, uterus, and vagina.
