topographical maps
these show the natural and human made surface features of the earth
thematic maps
use base or topographical maps as a base for showing data based on theme

fringing reefs - surround or fridge an island
barrier reefs - grows so large as to encompass and act as a barrier around the island, sinks the island
atolls - sinking island goes under leaving the ring of coral reef around the lagoon

Reasons for the American Revolution
- cultural disconnect between Americans and remote England
