A

usually under a 1/4 inch in length, but the largest get to 2 inches. Their chewing mouthparts are enclosed within a capsul; and they have the vestiges of legs (styli and subcoxal sacs) on the abdomen. They are whitish and without eyes.

They live in darkness under moss or rocks, or in the ground. Some live in ants nests of caverns. Eat both plant and animal material.
