Orbit 3 Flashcards
What percentage of infants have NLDO at birth?
50%
What is the most common site of orbital lymphoma presentation?
Lacrimal fossa
What are optocilliary shunt vessels?
Retinal venous outflow through the central retinal vein has increased resistance and so collateral expand. Those are the optocilliary shunt vessels which drain from the peripapillary region to the choroid
What type of tumor can cause optocilliary shunt vessels?
Optic sheath meningioma
What is the most common cause of NLDO in adults?
Involutional stenosis
Jones 1 test
Fluorescein instilled and CTA to inferior meatus to observe any dye
Jones 2
Done after Jones 1. Previously applied fluorescein is washed out of eye. NS irrigated to drainage system. Fluid is collected from inferior meatus and observed to see if dye is there. Means dye originally got into they lacrimal outflow system but could not get out.
Conjunctival DCR begins and ends where?
Caruncle to medial meatus
Retinal astrocytomas are most commonly associated with what phacomycoses?
Tuberous sclerosis
What percentage of patients will have epiphora with only one functioning punctum?
50%; the 50% will have constant or intermittant epiphora
Is a dermoid cyst a choristima or hamartoma?
Choristoma. Other choristomas include epidermoid cysts, dermolipomas, and teratomas
For necrotizing faciitis, which abx is particularly useful bc of its unique effectiveness against toxins produced by group a strep.
Clindamycin
AVM’s (arterial venous malformations) are high flow or low flow
High flow
Optic nerve gliomas are most frequently associated with what disease?
Neurofibromatosis type 1
What percentage of patient’s with Wegener’s granulomatosis have associated scleritis?
25%
