Oral Mucosal Space Flashcards
Oral mucosal space/surfae is divided into eight specific areas. Which are?
- Mucosal lip
- Upper alveolar ridge mucosal surface
- Lower alveolar ridge mucosal surface
- Retromolar trigone mucosal surface
- Buccal mucosa
- Floor of mouth
- Hard palate mucosal surface
- Anterior 2/3 of tongue (oral tongue) mucosal surface
It begins at vermilion border junction with skin
Mucosal lip borders
Includes only vermilion surface or portion of lip that makes contact with opposing lip
Refers to mucosa overlying alveolar process of maxilla
Upper alveolar ridge mucosal surface borders
- Extension of the upper alveolar ridge mucosal surface.
- What is its posterior margin?
- Extends from line of attachment of mucosa in upper gingival buccal gutter to junction of hard palate
- Posterior margin is upper end of pterygopalatine arch
Lower alveolar ridge borders
Refers to mucosa overlying alveolar process of mandible Extends from line of attachment of mucosa in buccal gutter to line of free mucosa of floor of mouth Posteriorly extends to ascending ramus of mandible Posterior
Borders of retromolar trigone
Attached mucosa overlying ascending ramus of mandible Extends from level of posterior surface of last molar tooth to apex superiorly, adjacent to tuberosity of maxilla
Buccal mucosa borders
Includes all membranes that line inner surface of cheeks and lips Extends from line of contact of opposing lips to line of attachment of mucosa of alveolar ridge (upper and lower) and pterygomandibular raphe
Borders of floor of mouth
Semilunar mucosal surface overly
