Disadavatages & contradictions

A

-alterations in GI function (nausea, reduced motility after surgery or resection)
-gastrict secretions may destroy
0may not be able to swallow (mouth lesions, neuromuscular, comatose)
-may iterate lining, unpleasant taste or bad teeth
- may be confused & hold under tongue
-don’t give with gastric suction

how to administer

A

1) check accuracy & composedness or MAR against doctors orders
-Copy or rewrite any part of MAR that is difficult to read
2) Assess the patient for any contraindications
3) Asses the medical hsotyr, allergies, diet history
4) gather info from physical exam & laboratory data: vitals, renal function etc
5) Assess patients knowledge
6) assess patients preferences for fluid & restrictions
7) Prepare meds
Hand hygiene, one at a time, compare with MAR. CHECK EXPIRARY DATE, if its controlled check last time & count & everything. Don’t touch meds. Don’t remove rapper. Place all meds into 1 cup with a label & discard label after admin. you can crush if needed.

hold muiltdose bottle with label against the palm of you hand while pouring
medication cup at eye level. To meniscus. Volumes less than 10ml into syringe
-discard excess
