Electronic health record
To enter a therapeutic provider prescription received verbally or by telephone accurately into the MAR.
Transcribe
A written or electronic transmission of a direction or order for the dispensation and administration of a medication.
Prescription
A method of packing medications in which individual doses are prepared and delivered in individually labeled packages
Unit-Dose
Medication with the potential for addiction, misuse, and physical or mental injury are regulated by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Controlled Substance
A form of packaging of a medication in which more than one dose is available.
Multi-Dose
A liquid made up of a diluent, such as water, and one or more dissolved medication compounds.
Solution
A secure system used to manage medication inventory and dispensation.
Automated Dispensing system (AMDS)
A unique form of identification, such a fingerprint, to access a system like an automated dispensing system.
Biometric identification.
A form of a specific dosage of medication that is compressed into a disk for ease of administration.
Tablet
Medication table that is coated to prevent dissolving in the stomach. It dissolves in the intestines, where the medication is then absorbed.
Enteric-coated
A flat, round tablet, also called a lozenge, designed to be dissolved in the mouth and not swallowed.
Troche
A form of medication that is contained within a gelatin shell. The gelatin shell dissolves in the stomach or intestine and the medication is absorbed.
Capsule
A form of medication delivery in which small particles of a medication contained within a tablet or capsule are absorbed at various times. This allows for a steady medication level to be achieved.
Sustained-release capsule
A solid form of medication compressed into a capsule shape and coated for ease of swallowing.
Caplet
Route of Medication administration of which a medication is placed under the tongue and allowed to dissolve.
Sublingual
Route of medication administration in which medication is placed inside the client’s mouth next to the cheek or the gum and allowed to dissolve.
Buccal
Clear liquid medication that is suspending in water and/or alcohol
Elixir
A concentrated sugar solution in which medication is suspended.
