Who can consent for a child?
Mother
Father if married to mother at birth or named on birth certificate (after 2006) or if married to mother (after 2006), private agreement, or court order.
What must be discussed in order to have informed consent?
Condition of teeth, treatment, alternatives, risks and benefits, prognosis, time to consider options, questions
When is written consent mandatory?
Sedation, GA, photographs, student treatment
What personal details should be recorded?
Name and patient’s preferred name, contact details, CHI number, GMP, school, accompanying adult, legal guardian
Which teeth should we BPE in children and adolescents?
Permanent teeth
How can we assess caries in children?
Visual, bitewings, separators
When should we start taking bitewings on kids?
Ages 5/6 if patient can tolerate
What are the two parts of the IOTN?
Aesthetic component (1-10), dental health component (1-5)
What are the phases of sequential treatment planning?
Prevention, acclimatisation, stabilisation, reassess, restore
