oral assessment 2 Flashcards
what ppe required?
The PPE required when building a circuit that will have moving parts includes eye protection such as googles.
what is a short circuit?
A short circuit is a direct connection across a battery holder. A short circuit is when electricity takes an unintended path through an electrical circuit, causing damage or even fire
Why is it important to not create a short circuit?
It is important not to create a short circuit as it can damage and/or quickly drain batteries.
What do numbers of blue wire block mean?
The numbers on a blue wire block is representative of the length of the wire connection required.
What are black numbers on electrical schematics?
In the electric schematics, the black numbers refer to the placement level numbers of where the parts are supposed to go.
what is purpose of base grid?
The purpose of the base grid is to be a platform for keeping parts and wires while also organizing them.
what is a printed circuit board and breadboard?
A breadboard is a platform used for prototyping sketches while a printed circuit board is a non-conductive board that connects and supports electrical components. It serves as the foundation for most electronic devices.
What is a jumper wire?
A jumper wire is used to create flexible connections when using snap wires is difficult. Additionally, they’re used to make connections off the base grid.
What is a resistor?
A resistor is a component that is used to “resist” the flow of electricity as well control and limit electricity in a circuit.
What is symbol on resistor?
The symbol on the resistor represents the unit of electrical resistance called an “ohm.” The valve indicates how much the resistor opposes the flow of current in the circuit.
what is colored lines on resistors?
The colored lines on real resistors represent the resistor’s value in ohms. Each color corresponds to a specific digit multiplier which means that one can read the resistance value without measuring.
what is basic troubleshooting steps?
- Double checking to see if your circuit matches the drawing.
- Make sure the parts with positive and negative markings are positioned correctly.
- Be sure that all connections are securely snapped.
- Try replacing the batteries.
- If the motor spins but does not balance the fan, check the black plastic piece with three prongs on the motor shaft. Be sure that it is at the top of the shaft.
What to do before starting advanced troubleshooting steps?
Before starting with the advanced troubleshooting section, the booklet recommends going through basic troubleshooting and determining if you have damaged parts.
How to solve a non-working circuit problem?
In order to solve a non-working circuit problem, one could reset the circuit by one turning it on and off. Additionally, one could split the circuit into parts and carefully check if each part meets its supposed requirements.
What is the analogy of water flowing through a water system?
It can help to explain the flow of electricity through. The flow aspect represents electrical current which is the amount of charge pressing a point. The water pressure through which water pushes through the pipes is similar to how voltage pushes electrons through a circuit. The pipe refers to components connecting in the circuit and the pipe size represents resistance. Amperes are like the amount of water flowing through the pipes.
