Why is a patent important?
It prevents others from stealing the creator’s ideas and unfairly profiting. Therefore it protects the inventions.
What is intellectual property?
A term that means expressible products from the human mind that can be controlled, bought, sold, or shared.
Dictionary:
a work or invention that is the result of creativity, such as a manuscript or a design, to which one has rights and for which one may apply for a patent, copyright, trademark, etc.
The difference between a patent, trademark, and copyright:
A patent is a right granted by the government for a period of time. A trademark is an identifiable mark of a creation. Copyright only protects limited things for a longer set period of time.

The United States Patents and Trademarks Office is responsible for issuing patents and trademarks.
When does patent expire?
A patent expires 20 years from the applied date or 14 years from the grant date for a design patent
When does copyright expire?
70 years

Patents are territorial and need to be filed in each country you want protection in

What does a patent need to include?
An abstract which should inclue a concise summary of the invention, highlighting what is new in the field, including the technical problem it solves, the basic principles of how it works, and the primary field of use, all presented in easily understandable language. Also the date filed, inventor name, applicant name, references, patent number, and date of patent.
