STOP means
top, talk, observe, prevent further injury
DRABCD means
danger, response, send for help, airway, breathing, CPR, defibrillation
Bleeding
pressure: allows for clotting
elevation: above heart level so it’s harder for blood to get to the cut
rest: reduces blood flow
➔ monitor for signs of shock and call ambulance if needed
Shock
Signs: enlarged pupils, cool and clammy skin, rapid pulse, rapid breathing, nausea or vomiting
Symptoms: thirst, fatigue, chest pain
Neck/spinal injury
signs: Difficulty with balance and walking
symptoms: Extreme back pain or pressure in your neck
Treatment for fractures
treat any wounds
pad bony areas, apply adequate splint and secure
Reassess pulse, apply appropriate sling if required.
Treatment for dislocation
RICER:
R) Rest
I) Ice
C) Compression
E) Elevation
R) Referral
heart attack / stroke
discomfort in the middle of the chest
FAST:
F: facial drooping
A: arm weakness
S: speech difficulties
T: time
Epilepsy
seizures, rigid body, tight jaw, mouth frothing
Poisoning
headache, blurred vision, vomiting, breathing difficulty
