Optics Flashcards
Benchmark MP4
The bending of a wave as it crosses the boundary between he two media at an angle.
When light refracts, it changes the speed at which the light waves travel through the different media or variations in temperatures and densities in the same medium.
Refraction
caused by the refraction of light in Earth’s atmosphere
You can see them over road surfaces on hot days becasue of temperature gradients.
Mirages
Definition: the phenomenon which occurs when a propagated wave strikes a medium boundary at an angle larger than the CRITICAL ANGLE with respect to the amount to the normal to the surface.
Internal Reflection
the incident angle beyond which rays of light passing between a denser medium to a less dense medium are no longer refracted but totally reflected
THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF LIGHT IS REFLECTED BACK INTO THE FIRST MEDIUM
Critical Angle
