Pupil and Crystalline Lens

A
  • Either a +7/+8D lens you can view pupils from a distance of 4 to 6cm from px
  • Look for anything thsat interferes with light returning from retina such as floaters (in vitreous), cataracts (in crystalline lens), corneal distortions or scars etc

Vitreous

A
  • Slowly reduce plus power and work your way back through vitreous examining it for slight changes
  • Vitreous floaters are best seen with +6/+7D lens in place
  • With retro illumination clearly in focus, ask the px to look v quickly to left, right and then back to a fixation point.
  • Floaters will be seen to swirl across as dark cobwebs or filaments within retinal glow
  • better for you to ask px if floaters bother them than for px to ask if you noticed them
