Ops Manual Part A Flashcards
The Commander, when flying with inexperienced co-pilots or a new co-pilot, shall perform the take-off or landing himself when the following conditions are experienced:
- crosswinds more than 2/3rds limiting value.
- runway is performance limited.
- take-off and landing RVR’s less than 1,000 m.
- cloud base is less than 100’ above decision altitude for a precision approach and 200’ above minima (MDA) for a non-precision approach aid.
- the runway is contaminated.
- abnormal procedures are required due to system defects.
- Second Officers (two stripes) shall not conduct the landing when the crosswind is in excess of 15 kt during normal operations. This restriction does not preclude the second officer from flying a monitored approach.
An Overweight landing is recommended in the following conditions:
- A serious malfunction that affects the airworthiness of the aircraft.
- A condition where an expeditious landing would prevent a non-normal situation developing into an unsafe situation (reduce the exposure to a degrading level of safety).
- A serious illness on board requiring prompt medical attention.
- If directed by the QRH to “land at the nearest suitable airfield”.
If the surface wind at destination exceeds 20kts the Captain will make the following PA when releasing Cabin Crew:-
“Cabin crew cleared disarm slides and open doors-exercise caution due to high winds”
You divert to an airport other than your scheduled destination but are then able to depart for your original destination airport. Are passengers allowed to disembark at the intermediate airport?
. No this is prohibited due to security issues.
What are the crosswind, landing limits for Second Officers (2 stripes)?
15 knots
What is the significance of the “VFR Traffic” watermark on RTOW charts?
That the airport they apply to lies in class E, F or G airspace
What is the normal fire category for Ryanair destinations
Cat 7
What is the minimum Fire Category that can be downgraded for 72 hrs for RYR ops?
Cat 5
Where would you normally ascertain if CAT2/3 operations are approved for a particular runway?
Jeppesen 10-9 or 10-9A
Does RYR use dedicated CAT3 approach plates?
No. The CAT2 plates are used replacing minima with 50ft RA and 200m RVR, providing associated 10-9/10-9A plate shows CAT3 approval.
When is it necessary to nominate a Take off alternate?
If the weather at the departure airfield is at or below the applicable aerodrome minima or it would not be possible to return to the departure airport for other reasons.
Within what distance must a T/O alternate be located?
A distance equivalent to 1 hour flightime at the one engine inoperative cruise speed
What distance does the 1 hour flight @ 1 ENG INOP CRZ SPD equal in the Boeing 737-800?
396 nm
What weather criteria must a Take off alternate fulfil?
The forecast 1 hour before to 1 hour after ETA must be above the required landing minima (CAT II/IIIa approaches not permitted).
What should be done with sections of the Tech Log that are not applicable to the flight (i.e. de-icing?).
They must be struck through to ensure all entries are contemporaneous.
When must the commander select at least two destination alternates?
Destination forecast from 1 hour before to 1 hour after ETA is below minima or no weather information available for destination.
What should the Captain do when informed by the CSS that an entry has been made in the Cabin Defect Log?
Check it for defects that might affect the airworthiness of the aircraft and if found transfer to the Tech Log.
What is the Ryanair policy for boarding passengers with a technical problem?
Board unless a technical defect renders it unsafe to board, reduces passenger comfort beyond acceptable levels or it is not possible due to fuelling and boarding regulations
What items must be retained in the Flight Envelope after the duty day?
Voyage Report, Loadsheets, OFPs, NOTAMS, Fuel Receipts, BLT Reports, SAFA Inspection Forms, NOTOCS, De-icing Forms.
When can the Captain derive an equivalent RVR value by converting the reported met visibility as outlined in Table 9 Part A 8.1.5.5.2:-
Only when approach minima is published solely as an RVR and RVR reports are not available at the time of the approach.
Who can act as a refuelling supervisor for Ryanair flight operations?
Any Ryanair pilot authorised by the Captain.
A licensed engineer.
A ground crew member who has undergone the Ryanair Refuelling Supervisor Module.
What area must the fueling supervisor ensure remains clear?
They must ensure that the ground area beneath the exits intended for emergency evacuation and the slide deployment areas are kept clear while refuelling is taking place.
What is the requirement to inform the airport fire service of a fuel spillage?
only if the fuel spillage area exceeds 2m diameter.
Fuel Uplift Check: What is the tolerance for fuel uplifts on the Boeing 737-800?
+/- 200kgs
What is the required number of cabin crew for boarding when the aircraft is refuelling?
Four at all tomes when refueling
What is the maximum surface windspeed for ground operations?
60 knots
