Ops Flashcards
Heights of information regions.
FIR - ground to FL245
UIR - FL245 to unlimited
(Flight info region)
(Upper info region)
What is a basic service?
Like an airborne NOTAM. Controller or Flt info service officer passes info pertinent to safe and efficient conduct of flight: such as weather, change of facilities, condition at aerodrome. Etc
Classes of airspace and heights
Transit Layer 195 to 245 C - 195 to 660 D - CTZ - 0 to specified - CTA >0 to specified E - below 6000 feet G - specified to 195
Difference between control zone and control area?
Control zone - ground to specified
Control area - specified (above ground) to specified
MATZ & ATZ dimensions?
ATZ (Air traffic zone)
- Surface to 2000ft AAL (above aerodrome level)
- Radius 2nm or 2.5nm (if runway > 1850m)
- From midpoint of longest runway
MATZ
- Surface to 3000ft AAL
- Radius 5nm (can be 3nm at smaller airfield)
- Stub(s)
- 1000ft to 3000ft AAL
- 4nm wise
- 5nm long
UK Visual Flight Rules?
- Aircraft to remain in weather that meets VMC minima
- Pilot responsible for safe separation from other aircraft
Instrument Flight Rules outside controlled airspace?
- Above 3000ft
- Set 1013 on altimeter
- Select FL based on IFR semi circular rules (odd 000M - 179M and even 180M - 359M). * MAGNETIC *
VFR weather minima criteria

Cloud horizontal - 1500m
Cloud vertical - 1000ft
Below 3000ft AMSL Vis - 5km Cloud horizontal - 1500m Cloud vertical - 1000ft OR COCISS (clear of cloud and sight of surface)
