Verbal
Strength: Rapid Distribution
Weakness: Risks Info Being Lost

Written
Strength: Promote clarity, accuracy, and brevity, shortens the time needed to gather and brief the orders.
Weakness: Electronic orders can become unnecessarily large.

What are the three order types?

A

Warning Order
A preliminary notice of an order or action to follow.

Operations Order
A directive issued by a commander to subordinate commanders for the purpose of effecting the coordinated execution of an operation.

Fragmentary Order
An abbreviated operation order issued as needed to change or modify an order or to execute a branch or sequel.

What are the five paragraphs in an OPORD and what do they consist of?

A

Situation

  • Focus regards on operational situation surrounding the two primary sub-paragraphs:
  • Enemy Forces: Disposition and array
  • Friendly Forces: Disposition and Array
  • Attachments and Detachments: Others assigned
Mission:
A simple statement explaining the 5 W’s of an operations
-Who: Unit(s) responsible
What: The type of operation
When: Date/Time of execution
Where: Location
Why: Purpose for the operation

Execution
Mission-specific guidance that includes:
Commander’s Intent: The ultimate conditions that must be met for success
Concept of the Operation: The how of executing an operation

Sustainment
Explains the logistical methods and supplies necessary for the successful execution of an operation.

Command and Signal
Lists the operational succession of command and the communication procedures necessary for executing an operation.
