Adie pupil?
Tonically dilated, slow reaction to light, accommodation present.
Due to bacterial/viral infection - affects parasym innervation
More common in women
Absent knee or ankle reflexes
Argyll-Robertson pupil?
Accommodates but doesn’t react to light.
Bilaterally small pupils
Can be associated with neurosyphilis or diabetic neuropathy.
Optic neuritis causes, symptoms and treatment?
Causes:
Multiple sclerosis
Diabetes
Syphilis
Symptoms RAPD Unilateral, decrease in vision acutely (days) Pain Red desaturation
Treat
High dose steroids
Scleritis and episcleritis associated with what?
Rheumatoid arthritis.
Scleritis - painful
Episcleritis - not painful
Main fundoscopy feature of primary open angle glaucoma?
Optic disc cupping
Disc-to-cup ratio >0.7 (normal 0.4-0.7)
Ototoxic drugs?
Gentamicin Quinine Furosemide Aspirin Some Chemotherapy agents
Intranuclear ophthalmoplegia?
EG:
Patient looks to left.
Left eye has nystagmus
Right eye can’t fully adduct across.
