What is Job production?
Job production is when each product is unique and set to meet each customers’ order
What is Batch production?
Batch production is when each product is produced in a set, however these are not the same by the end of the production process
What is Flow production?
Flow production is when products are produced in a set however, different from batch production, these products remain the same.
Advantages of Job production?
-Specifications can be altered during production process if customer has changed their mind.
-It’s customised
-It is often high quality
Advantages of Batch production
-Allows flexible production
-Inventories of part-finished goods can be stored and completed later
Advantages of Flow production
-Automated assembly lines save time and money.
-Quality systems can be built into the production at each stage.
-The process can be merchandised
Disadvantages of Job production
-Production costs likely to be high
-Production time may be longer
-Investment in machinery may be higher as specialist equipment may be needed
Disadvantages of Batch production
-Making many small batches can be expensive
-If production runs are different there may be additional costs and delays in preparing equipment
Disadvantages of Flow production
-Standardised product produced
-High initial set-up costs of automated assembly lines
-Workers find work repetitive and boring
