Operations Flashcards
% OF
* 14% of 25
- Change the % to a decimal by sliding two spaces
- Multiply decimal to number (OF MEANS MULTIPLY)
- The answer is a whole number
Multiply Decimals
* 3.4 x 5.12
- Ignore the decimal
- Multiply as normal
- Scoop the decimals in problem into the answer
Greatest Common Factor GCF
* Find the GCF of 12 and 18
- Make a list of factors
- Find the greatest one in common
Convert improper fraction to mixed number
* 13/5 to 2 3/5
- How many times does the denominator go into the numerator, that becomes whole #
- Multiply that number by denominator and subtract from the numerator, that becomes the new numerator
- Denominator doesn’t change
Add/Subtract Unlike Fractions
* 1/8 + 1/3
- Multiply the denominators together to make a common denominator
- Cross multiply the old denominator with the opposite numerator
- Rewrite the equivalents
- Add or subtract
Add/Subtract Like Fractions
* 1/4 + 2/4
- Add or subtract the numerator
- Leave the denominator the same
Least Common Multiple LCM
* Find LCM of 4 and 6
- Make a list of multiples (getting bigger)
- Find the least (smallest) one in common
Divide with Decimals in Divisor
* 56.3 ÷ 2.4
- Slide until the decimal is at the end of the divisor
- Slide the same number of spaces in the dividend
- Raise to the roof then solve
Multiply Fractions
* 1/3 x 2/5
- Multiply the numerator
- Multiply the denominator
Simplifying Fractions (Lowest Terms) * Simplify 15/20
- Find the GCF between the numerator and denominator
- Divide the numerator and denominator by that number
% IS
* 13% is 20, what is 100%?
- Change the percent to a decimal sliding
- Swap the number with the decimal
- Divide the number by the decimal
Change a fraction to a decimal
- Divide the numerator by the denominator
Dividing fractions
*ex: 3/5 ÷ 2/3
- Convert any mixed numbers to improper fractions
- Keep the first fraction
- Change division to multiplication
- Flip the last fraction
- Multiply
Find Equivalent Fractions or Ratios
- If ratio, turn into a fraction
- Ask what we can multiply to turn one fraction into the other
- Check if same number was multiplied on top and bottom
- If same number was used, it is equivalent
Converting a mixed number to improper fraction
* 2 1/3 into 7/3
- Multiply down (multiply whole number to denominator)
- add up (add that to the numerator)
- Denominator stays the same
