Secure
Prevent a unit, facility or geographical location from being damaged or destroyed by enemy.
Suppress
Temporary degradation of the performance of a force or weapons system below level needed to accomplish its mission
Attack by Fire
Use direct fires and indirect fires to engage enemy without closing with him to destroy/suppress/fix
Clear
Remove all enemy forces and eliminate organized resistance within an assigned area
Ambush
Surprise attack from concealed location on enemy
Support by Fire
Enemy engaged by direct fire in support of another maneuver force.
Destroy
Physically renders enemy force combat-ineffective
Delay
Slow advance of enemy forces IOT support establishment of defense.
Occupy
Unapposed movement of a friendly force into an area so it can control that area.
Neutralize
Rendering enemy incapable of interfering with a particular operation
Disrupt
Integrating direct, indirect fires along with terrain and obstacles to upset an enemy’s formation, tempo, timetable.
Isolate
To seal off both physically and psychologically an enemy from his sources of support and prevent him having contact with other enemy forces.
Contain
To stop, hold or surround enemy forces or cause them to center their activity on a given front and prevent withdrawal.
Fix
Prevent enemy from moving any part of his force from a specific location for a specific period.
Restrictive Fire Line
Line preventing two friendly forces from firing across that line. -Can be fired across with prior coordination.
Final Protective Fire
Prearranged barrier of fire to impede enemy movement across defensive lines or area.
Line of departure
Phase line crossed at prescribed time by troops IOT coordinate operations.
Check Point
Pre-determined point on ground used to control movement, tactical maneuver and orientation.
Decisive Point
Place, point, or event that gives commanders a marked advantage over an adversary.
CCIR
Commader’s Critical Information Requirement: Information requirement identified by the commander as being critical to facilitating timely decision making.
Priority intelligence requirements
PIR: Priority piece(s) of intelligence that support the commander and staff needed to understand the adversary or operational environment.
