What is a user interface?
It controls how a person interacts with a computer
What does GUI stand for?
Graphical user interface
What does HCI stand for?
Human computer interface
Advantage of GUI
You don’t need to remember commands, can just use icons and menus
Disadvantage of GUI
Need more memory and storage space in order to load all graphics
What is a command line?
Need to remember certain commands to operate
Advantage and disadvantage of command line
A= requires less memory/storage
D=spelling erros means the command will not work
What is menu/dialogue box?
You have to select a choice form a list of different menu options. Dialogue box pop up on the screen to ask the user a question or inform them about something
Advantage and disadvantage of menu/dialogue box?
A= No need to remember commands D= too many menus can be annoying for the user
What is a voice user interface?
Give computer verbal commands by talking through a microphone
Advantage and Disadvantage of VUI
A=Useful for people with disabilities
D= can struggle with accents
What is Touch?
Use gestures to control a touch screen
Advantage and Disadvantage of Touch?
A= use without training D= some people find it easier to use a normal keyboard
What is Biometrics?
Using unique body parts to control a computer
Advantage and Disadvantage of Biometrics
A= don’t have to remember a password
D=expensive, worry about giving away personal details
