Operating Systems (OS)
Manage the hardware and software for the computer. Makes computer user friendly - handling most of the tasks of the computer.
Memory Management
OS is responsible for the running programs to have space in RAM.
Keeps track of what memory is allocated in which process.
Storage Management
OS will over see all the saved data to and from secondary storage.
Creates and deletes files and directories so it can be found at a later date.
Device Management
OS keeps track of all external devices plugged into the computer.
OS handles communications between connected devices.
Provides interface
Normally (not always) icons appear that can be clicked on to navigate programs and files.
Command line interface
User has to manually input lines of command to output desired result.
Graphical User Interface
Provides graphical output for user.
