Operant conditioning Flashcards
Positive reinforcement
Stimulus following a behaviour that makes it more likely that behaviour will occur again in the future by adding something
Example:
Giving a dog a treat after performing a trick
Two types of classical conditioning behaviours have consequences
(GOAL BEHAVIOUR SAFE DRIVING)
_________________________________
•REINFORCEMENT
Increase the tendency a behaviour will occur again
-positive -something being added (rewarded with free petrol)
-Negative- something being taken away (when you get in the car if you don’t put in your seat belt the car dings by putting on your seat belt the beeps go away )
________________________________
•punishment
Increases the tendency the behaviour won’t occur again
- Positive- (something being added) if your speeding a speeding ticket is being added to decrease the tendency the behaviour will happen again
- negative- (something taken away)if not a safe driving your licence will be taken away to decrease the tendency the behaviour will happen again
4 types of consistencies so yeah
Negative reinforcement
To increase good behaviour you will take something away that is negative
Example:
Can’t think of any but when you get in the car if you don’t have your belt on the car beeps it’s negative if you put on your belt your rewarded by that beeping stopping it stops the negative thing there
Positive punishment
To decrease the likelihood of unwanted behaviour a unpleasant consequence will be added
Example:
If someone litters they will be given a fine
Negative punishment
Something is being taken away in the effort to decrease that behaviour happening again
If a dog does something bad you will take away it’s ball
