Classical Conditioning Flashcards
Stimulus
Something that exists in the surroundings or is presented to a person or animal
Response
How the animal or person responds to the stimuli
(US) unconditioned stimulus
Something that Produces a natural responds or reaction
(Something you don’t have to learn for it to happen naturally happens)
Example :
If there is meat in front of a hungry dog the dog will naturally salivate (drool)
(UR) unconditioned response
The reaction to the (US)( a response you haven’t learned, a natural response)
Example:
The dog salivating to the meat.
(NS) neutral stimulus
Something that doesn’t produce a response
Example:
If I ring the bell in front of the dog the dog has no reaction
(CR) conditioned response
The dog salivates to the sound of the bell without the meat
any response to a (CS) is a (CR)
Acquisition
Is the part where the (US the meat) and (CS the bell)are presented together this increases the likelihood of the(CR salivating)
Extinction
When the (CR the salivating) stops because the (CS the bell) hasn’t been presented with the (US the meat) for a while
Example:
When you ring the bell without the meat so many times the dog no longer salivates to the bell
(CS) conditioned stimulus
Example:
The meat is shown to the dog and the bell is rang at the same time this caused the dog to associate the meat with the bell
(CS) conditioned stimulus
Example:
The meat is shown to the dog and the bell is rang at the same time this caused the dog to associate the meat with the bell
Spontaneous recovery
When the (CS) produces the (CR) after the behaviour has been extinct
Example:
The dog doesn’t salivate to the bell 30 times but on the 31st the dog does
