Q

Devices->Discovery…What does a Discovery do.

A

This is probably the topic that we will spend the most time on due to it’s significance. A device that is discovered can be monitored, maintained, updated, etc. Today, we are going to simulate an iDRAC device. Does anybody know which type of protocol would be used.

Q

Devices->Refresh Health? or Run inventory? What is the difference? Why would you choose one over the other?

A

Refresh Health is precisely just for refreshing the health status of the device. I am not certain how important the ‘Refresh Health’ option is but we won’t spend a lot of time on it.

Q

What is the Devices -> Static Group designed for

A

It is a custom group. Not a built in Group. Defined as a static list of devices. Membership is explicitly defined and is not affected by future events such as newly discovered devices.

Q

During the Discovery process…what are the two options that you never want to leave out, especially notwithstanding the iDRAC.

A

You want to enable the SNMP traps and you want to enable the community. If you don’t enable it then you must at some point go to each iDRAC device later on and set it, individually.
