A

Post trauma
Obvious deformity - wound or punctum (bone protruding)
Pain and swelling

A

Bloods - clotting screen + group and save
Neurovascular examination
XRAY

How is an open fracture managed?

A

Fluid rescus
Analgesia
Broad spectrum abx. + tetanus vaccination
Urgent realingement and splinting

Surgery

  • debridement of wound as needed
  • wash out with saline
  • skeletal stabilisation - e.g. screws
  • plastic surgery may need for soft tissue / skin coverage
  • ensure no vascular surgery is needed
