OP Prep Flashcards
Gastrocnemius
Origin: medial and lateral femoral condyles
Insertion: calcaneus via Achilles’ tendon
Action: plantar flexion, knee flexion, supination
Tibial nerve.
Popliteal artery.
– superficial. (Proximal lateral attachment deep to distal belly of biceps femoris)
Infraspinatus
Origin: infraspinous fossa
Insertion: Greater tubercle of humerus
Actions: lateral rotation; horizontal abduction
Inferior to spine of scapula; superior to Teres minor and major.
Superficial except for a small medial portion that’s deep to trapezius.
Rectus femoris
Origin: AIIS
Insertion: tibial tuberosity
Actions: knee extension; hip flexion
Femoral nerve.
Femoral and deep femoral arteries.
Superficial except for proximal section where it is deep to Sartorius and TFL. Slightly overlaps Vasti medialis and lateralis.
Serratus Anterior
Origin: anterior-lateral section of R1-9
Insertion: anterior surface of entire medial border of scapula.
Action: protraction and upward rotation of scapula.
Dorsal scapular nerve.
Lateral thoracic artery.
Mostly deep to scapula and latissimus dorsi, and to pecs major and minor.
Palpate supine, protraction.
Gluteus medius
Origin: external ilium (between anterior and posterior gluteal lines)
Insertion: greater trochanter (lateral surface)
Abducts
Posterior fibres: extends and laterally rotates
Anterior fibres: flexes, medially rotates.
Superior gluteal nerve.
Surperior gluteal artery.
Posterior 1/3 deep to glute max. Some of anterior fibres deep to tfl.
Middle portion superficial.
Psoas
Origin: T12-L5
Insertion: lesser trochanter
Actions: hip flexion, posterior pelvic tilt, lateral rotation of thigh
Lumbar plexus nerve
Lumbar and iliolumbar arteries
Deep. Palpate supine with pillow under knees, or side lying.
Biceps femoris.
Origin: Long head – Ischial tuberosity.
Short head: Linea aspera
Insertion: head of fibula
Action: knee flexion, hip extension
Sciatic nerve
Long head: inferior gluteal, obturator, and deep femoral arteries
Short head: deep femoral and popliteal arteries.
Lateral hammie. Superficial except proximal where deep to glute max. Short head deep to long head.
Short head attaches just distal to gluteal tuberosity.
Medial to Vastus lateralis.
Extensor carpi radialis brevis
Origin: lateral epicondyle of humerus (CET)
Insertion: posterior hand on radial side (base of MC 3) million
Extends wrist, radial deviation.
Superficial except for small proximal segment deep to brachioradialis and ECRL.
Distal attachment deep to distal tendon of extensor indices
Extensor carpi radialis brevis
Origin: lateral epicondyle of humerus (CET)
Insertion: posterior hand on radial side (base of MC 3) million
Extends wrist, radial deviation.
Radial nerve
Brachial and radial artery
Superficial except for small proximal segment deep to brachioradialis and ECRL.
Distal attachment deep to distal tendon of extensor indices
Semitendinosus
Origin: Ischial tuberosity
Insertion: pes Anserine
Knee flexion. Hip extension
Sciatic nerve
Inferior gluteal, obturator and popliteal arteries.
Superficial and lateral to semi membranous. Deep to glute Max at proximal attachment.
Tibialis anterior
Origin: prox (2/3) tibia and prox 2/3 interosseus membrane, lateral tibial condyle
Insertion: medial foot (1st cuneiform and 1 Mt)
Dorsiflexion and supination
