OP 1008 Communications Doctrine Flashcards
What is Admin Traffic and who is it intended for
Intended for FCC
addition/subtraction of resources
Time commitments
Notification to other entities when you can’t do it yourself (Edison)
What is Command Traffic and who is it intended for?
Traffic on the command (repeated channel) for incoming resources and resources on scene.
Managing the incident with conditions actions and needs centered around objectives and priorities
Intended for resources incoming or on-scene
MDC
Mobile Data Computer
Just the computer in the engine
AVL
Automatic Vehicle Location
GPS tracker on the engine
CAD
Computer Aided Dispatch
The software that allows engines to be tracked and dispatched accordingly
What are the type of things you should be communicating directly to dispatch about?
Time commitment of resources on scene
The need for additional resources
Notification to outside agencies/entities when you can’t do it yourself
Why is it acceptable to initially direct traffic to “Ventura” during on-scene and size up?
Usually the on-scene/size up has administrative traffic in it the would warrant additional resources
When driving around the county, when do you need to update Ventura?
Status change like CAV/OOS
When you are on a move-up to cover and will be available from another sector
(Don’t need to update Ventura when driving to a drill. CAD will do the work on dispatching appropriate resources).
Is it appropriate to communicate to other incoming resources while on the way to a call?
Yes
Communicating identified needs before getting on scene helps to get ahead of the curve
Be sure to confirm any needs given before on scene get done once on scene
What is the proper way to get Ventura’s attention to communicate admin or command traffic?
State, “Ventura and the resource you are”
Wait for acknowledgement in case dispatch is busy
You don’t need to state the channel you are on
Who are progress reports intended for and what is dispatches role in them when they are given?
Progress reports are given for the resources on the emergency.
They give updates on objectives priorities, conditions, actions and needs
They are on the command channel
Dispatch will add the pertinent information to the call slip as the progress report is given
What are the ways water supply can be addressed?
On water meaning the 1st on scene engineer can handle water on his own
Not on water and instructions given to second in
Give instructions in route for water but confirm it gets done when unit arrives
What is the second in engine/engineers responsibility when it comes to establishing water supply?
Help with water if instructed
If not instructed double check that 1st in engineer doesn’t need help establishing water prior to going to work
When do multi-unit responses require an on-scene?
When you have actions and needs that need to be met by incoming resources
Structures have needs
If you don’t give an on-scene report what would/could you do instead?
When you get on scene hit the on-scene button on MDC
Advise other incoming resources of a staging location while perform a size-up
Proper procedure when told to stage at a multi unit response?
Who cleans up any mistakes?
Stage at staging location
Push stage button on MDC
Advise once on command that you are staged (IC, E53 staged)
Once you get an assignment click on-scene on MDC
If you don’t go on-scene after you get assignment, Command dispatcher will adjust status
When is it appropriate for a captain to update the call slip?
When time allows
Outside entities like Edison, Gas, Water Co.
What is the code when you need LE on scene but can’t state why?
Code 8
“Ventura, ME53, Code 8”
When you can verbalize a need for LE what information should you include?
Include the need for the right LE
Include the reason why
Code or no code
Safety of crew and potential staging while you wait
What resources will come when you announce code 8?
What resources will come with standard activation of emergency button?
1 BC and LE for code 8
1 BC
1 eng
1 amb (if ambulance is code 8 then 1 EMS Supervisor)
