Ontkennende Vorm Rules Flashcards
For a basic sentence, what is the rule? For example:
Ek lees ‘n boek
STEP 1: Identify the first verb
STEP 2: Put a ‘nie’ after the first verb
STEP 3: Put a ‘nie’ at the end of the sentence
What is the rule regarding pronouns in ontkennende vorm? For example:
Ek bel Pieter op sy selfoon? OR
Hy bel my op my selfoon?
STEP 1: Identify the pronoun that comes after the first verb (if there is one)
STEP 2: Put the ‘nie’ after the pronoun and NOT the verb
STEP 3: Put the last nie at the end of the sentence
E.g. Ek bel Pieter NIE op sy selfoon NIE or
Hy bel my NIE op my selfoon NIE
What is the rule if the sentence is asking a question and we have to put it into the negative form? For example:
Is dit vandag koud? or
Hou jy van skool?
STEP 1: When a question is asked, we ANSWER it in the negative form
STEP 2: The question needs to be answered as if it is being addressed TO YOU
STEP 3: Change the pronouns in order to make sense. It is kind of like direct and indirect in that sense
STEP 4: Start your answer with the word ‘NEE’
STEP 5: Apply any other relevant negative rules
E.g. NEE, dit is NIE vandag koud NIE
NEE, EK hou NIE van skool NIE
If the sentence we are required to put into the negative is a command, for example:
‘Antwoord die telefoon’
How would you put this in the negative?
STEP 1: Start the sentence with ‘MOENIE’
STEP 2: Identify the verb and sent it to the end
STEP 3: Apply any other relevant negative rules, taking pronouns into account
E.g. MOENIE die telefoon ANTWOORD NIE
What happens if there is not only a command, but there is an ‘asseblief’ in the command?
For example: Antwoord asseblief die telefoon!
STEP 1: Start the sentence with MOET ASSEBLIEF NIE
STEP 2: Identify the verb and send it to the end
STEP 3: Apply any other relevant negative rules, taking pronouns into account
E.g. MOET ASSEBLIEF NIE die telefoon ANTWOORD NIE
