Online and Blended Teaching and Learning Flashcards
What is Face to Face learning?
Traditional teaching, such as lectures
What is Online Learning?
Students engage with their teachers in one or more courses online
What is a Learning Management System?
a software application that is used to administer, track, report and deliver training (i.e. Google Classroom or eClass)
What is Blended Learning?
both traditional face-to-face instructional time and online or computer-mediated activities are integrated
What is Synchronous Learning?
the learner and instructor are in the same place at the same time
What is Asynchronous Learning?
students and teacher can engage in course-related activities at their convenience rather than during specifically coordinated class sessions
Why is Blended Learning useful?
- Increase student motivation and engagement
- Provide students with immediate feedback
- Reduce operational costs (after initial setup)
- Personalize the learning experience
- Enhance competency-based learning
What did the introduction of MOOCS do?
Increased accessibility to high level teaching and learning
What is the Face to Face Model?
Online instruction is used for students who are behind, otherwise the class is blended with a traditional teaching approach
What is the Self-Blend model?
Online learning as an option for students to do on their own while taking face to face classes. For example is if the school they are at doesn’t offer the course they want to take.
What is the Rotational Model?
Students rotate on a fixed schedule between online, self-paced activities, and face-to-face learning
What is the Flex Model?
Allows for Asynchronous Learning, but it is supervised in a classroom (e.g. ETLC)
What is the Online Driver Model?
Students decide where to work and receive all instruction online
