One-Way ANOVA Flashcards
1
Q
What is ANOVA?
A
- Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is a collection of statistical models and their associated estimation procedures used to analyze the differences among group means in a sample
2
Q
What is ANOVA used for?
A
- Mainly Exatenting the t-Test
- For example, an Independent t-Test has one independent variable (factor) with 2 levels - Eg: The effect of diet A and diet B on weight loss Therefore we do not need ANOVA
- Whereas, in a t-Test with more than 2 levels (Eg: The effect of diet A, diet B and diet C on weight loss) We cannot use the t-test directly to test all pairwise combinations and so ANOVA must be used
- In other words we cannot test level1 vs level2; level1 vs level3; and level2 vs level3 with just a t-Test (Eg. The effect of diet A and diet B; diet A and diet C; or diet B and diet C)
