One Health, Planetary Health and AMR Flashcards
What are antimicrobials?
Microbe = microorganism = bacteria, archaea, fungi, protozoa, viruses
Antimicrobial = kills or inhibits growth of a microbe
Antibiotics are a type of antimicrobial
Tackling AMR
Optimize the use of antimicrobial medicines in human and animal health; and
Develop the economic case for sustainable investment that takes account of the needs of all countries and to increase investment in new medicines, diagnostic tools, vaccines and other interventions.
Tackling AMR
Improve awareness and understanding of antimicrobial
resistance through effective communication, education
and training;
Strengthen the knowledge and evidence base through
surveillance and research;
Reduce the incidence of infection through effective sanitation, hygiene and infection prevention measures;
One Health
Health of humans, domestic and wild animals and the wider environment
are interdependent
Engages multiple sectors, disciplines and communities at varying levels
of society
How One Health has been used
Antimicrobial resistance
Zoonotic diseases
Vector-borne diseases
Food safety and foodborne diseases
The environment
Functioning of health systems
One Health and AMR
- Global public awareness campaign to reduce the number of antimicrobials prescribed
- Improve and strengthen hygiene measures and prevent the spread of
infections
One Health and AMR
- Reduce the unnecessary use of antimicrobials in agriculture and their
dissemination to the environment - Improve global surveillance of drug resistance
- Promote new and rapid clinical diagnoses
One Health and AMR
- Promote the development and use of vaccines and alternatives
- Increase the number of people working with infectious diseases,
infectious disease specialists, nurses, infection control specialists,
veterinarians, and epidemiologists
One Health and AMR
- Global innovation fund for early-stage research on new treatments.
- Create better incentives to promote investment in new drugs and in the improvement of existing drugs
- Build a global coalition for real action against AMR. Global action is
essential to make significant progress in the fight against AMR
