Oncology Intro Flashcards
1
Q
Paraneoplastic Effects
A
- Hypercalcaemia - increased PTH
- Hypoglycaeimia- increased insulin
- Increased viscosity/Hyperglobinaeimia - increased antibody production
- Gastric ulcers and vomiting - MCT histamine release
- Endocrine problems - increased cortisol/thyroid hormones/femination from sertolli cell tumours
- Pyrexia from inflammatory mediators
- Immune mediated disease
- Hypertrophic Osteopathy- lameness and swelling of bones
- Dermatological manifestations - exocrine or immune system
- Cancer cachexia
2
Q
Staging/Grading
A
Stage- Extent of disease (TNM staging system)
Grade- Biological properties/differentiation (Patnaik/Kiupel)
3
Q
Mast Cell Tumours
can Granulate/ Round cell tumour
A
- Patnaik(3 stages)/Kupiel (high/low) Grading
- 1- Ki-67 marker shows proliferation
- TNM system for staging/ extent of disease
- Surgery (3cm margins) and then chemo or Rx (VINBALSTINE/LOMUSTINE+PRED)
- MASITINIB/TOCERANIB
- Grade 3 = Radiosensitive
Histamine can cause the paraneoplastic effect of Gastric ulceration/ vomiting
