Alkylating agents
Inducing binding in dna strands and by preventing dna function and replication. DNA can’t untwist. No cell reproduction and protein synthesis. Initiate apoptosis
Anti metabolite
Structurally similar to endogenous metabolites and interrupt cell pathways that synthesize dna and rna.
Do by mimicking active ingredients or other constituent needed for dna synthesis and replication
Antibiotic
Incorporated into DNA strand: inserted between base pairs in the dna strand. Cause lysis of dna strand. May induce formation of free radicals
Anti microtubule agents
Disrupt normal function of spindle apparatus and prevent cell from dividing and proliferating. Inhibit breakdown of microtubules and create a stable but nonfunctional mitosis apparatus
Topoisomerase inhibitors
Catalyzes the cutting and religating of DNA strands during the unwinding/rewinding process of DNA replication. Inhibitors render cell unable to replicate
Anti cancer hormones
Mimic or block effects of hormones to treat certain hormone sensitive forms of cancer. Direct inhibitors on cancer cell or by negative feedback mechanisms that decrease the endogenous hormonal stimulation of the tumor
Platinum coordination complexes
Heavy metal compounds form strong cross links between and in DNA strands to prevent translation and replication to cause cell damage
Avenue target cell surface glycoproteins, growth factor receptors, and ligands
Binds on or in cancer cells and transmit intercellular signals resulting in cell death, deliver chemotherapy agents to disease die or prevent cell growth and proliferation
Cytokines
Stimulate immune mechanisms by increases proliferation and activity of immune cells that destroy abnormal cell proliferation without harming normal cells
