Oncology Flashcards
Wilm’s Tumor/Nephroblastoma
Commonly presents as asymptomatic mass with mean age of dx of 3.5. Abdo pain (40%), hematuria (20%), hypertension, hemihypertrophy and aniridia.
Metastasize by blood/lymph: bone, lung, brain, liver.
Good prognosis, 80-90% survival with chemo, radiation and surgery.
Aniridia and wilm’s are both associated with Chromosome 11.
Acute splenic sequestration
bite cells and Heinz bodies. big sequestration of cells into the spleen causing hypovolemia and circulatory collapse.

Beckwidth Wiedeman Syndrome
Overgrowth disorder. Macrosomia, visceromegaly, macroglossia, hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia, midline defects. Ear tags/pits. Associated with wilm’s Tumor.
WAGR Syndrome
Wilm’s Tumor, Aniridia, GU abnormalities, mental retardation.
Fever, abdominal mass, bone pain, limp, irritability and diarrhea….
neuroblastoma probably.
Prognostic factors for ALL
Bad: thymic variants mostly - age 10, CNS leukemia, platelets <100 000, mediastinal mass.

bite cells and Heinz bodies. big sequestration of cells into the spleen causing hypovolemia and circulatory collapse.
Drugs causing mucositis
Methotrexate usually. Also doxorubicin.
