what is a disability?

what is TERTIARY
prevention/intervention?
Managing chronic and complex medical conditions
(e.g. TBI, chronic pain) to prevent further deterioration which may result in an individual’s premature exit from the workforce
what is SECONDARY
prevention/intervention?
Adaptation of work or environment for workers when returning to work post-injury or illness(occupational or non occupational) to prevent further decline or re-injury.
what is PRIMARY prevention?
Intervention to prevent the occurrence of an injury or disease
what is disability management?
DM refers to a process of disability prevention, early intervention, and sustainable employment after onset of disability
what are disability benefits?
- Typically replace up to 60-80% of regular income
- Some plans pay tax-free, others are taxable
- 100% or partially employer/union/association paid
- Disability benefits will be taxable
- EE pays 100% premiums
- Disability benefits will be tax free
what is short term disability?
initiated after sick leave used (+vacation or other); % of normal earnings up to a defined duration
what is long term disability?
initiated after Short term used; % of normal earnings or maximum $
amount
Typically: LTD benefits are paid up to 2 years if unable to perform own occupation; after this period of time, benefits only continued if you are deemed unable to perform any
occupation
