omi term 2 optical equiptment Flashcards
aperture stop
physical stop that controls brightness of image but not size of fov
entrance pupil
image of aperture stop when viewed through front of a lens system- virtual system
exit pupil
image of aperture stop when viewed through back of lens system
what is aperture stop in eye
pupil as it controls brightness but not fov
when pupil constricts it doesnt produce pinhole vision
why cant we view exit pupil
because we cant see it from point of retina
what is entrance pupil
as we look through cornea
field stop
physical aperture stop at point of image formation that limits fov by limiting contribution of off axis light
entrance port
image of field stop created by optical elements in front of it
exit port
image of field stop created by optical elements that follow it
telescopes
in two lens telescope objective lens acts as entracne port
image of objective lens formed by eyepeice forms the exit pupil
position and size of exit pupil controls fov which is field stop
exit pupil should coinicide with observers eye pupil but this applies for kepler telescope not galilean telescope
