OKC + Flashcards
why high recurrence?
The high recurrence rate has been attributed to thin and friable cystic lining and presence of satellite or daughter microcysts in the adjoining connective tissue, which makes it impossible to obtain histologically clear margins with enu- cleation alone.
recurrence rates regarding marsupilisation alone? enucleation alone? enucleation with peripheral osextomy? Enucleation with cryotherapy? enucleation with carnoys? with resection?
marsupialisation alone (32%), enucleation alone (23%), enucleation with peripheral ostectomy (17%), marsu- pialisation with enucleation (15%), enucleation with cryotherapy (15%), enucleation with Carnoy’s solution (11%), and resection (8%).1
carnoys solution? legal? why or why not? b/c of what in it?
Carnoy’s solution (CS) is a commonly used chemical adjuvant, how- ever the sourcing of this material has become increasingly difficult. The situation is likely to get worse as the CS is cur- rently banned by the United States Food and Drugs Agency (FDA) due to the potential carcinogenic effects of chloro- form, a key constituent of CS. This has led to exploration of alternative materials as a substitute for CS. A chloroform-free version named Modified Carnoy’s solution
