What is Hubbert’s peak oil theory?
The Hubbert peak theory is based on the observation that the amount of oil under the ground in any region is finite (limited); therefore, the rate of discovery, which initially increases quickly, must reach a maximum and then decline.
The hypothetical point at which global crude oil production will hit its maximum rate, after which production will start to decline.
American geologist M. King Hubbert predicted that United States oil production would follow a bell-shaped curve and peak between 1965 and 1970.
